It’s hard to say what was more dramatic for the Logan High School girls 800-meter relay team.

They repeated as state champs. Probably a sigh of relief after they were were three-tenths of a second from not making the Division 1 WIAA State Track and Field finals after a 10th-place preliminary race.

If that wasn't nerve wracking enough, they were a blink of an eye

Three-tenths of a second slower and they’re not in the finals. But they were a blink of an eye ... or less from winning the title.

Central Sawyer Smith finished up his high school career with a pair of third-place finishes at the WIAA Division 1 track and field meet.

Smith, who is headed to the University of Wisconsin on a half-scholarship to become a decathlete, finished third in both the long jump and 400-meter dash.

The men earned a Division III national title as a team, and a pair of relay teams won national titles for the women.

The UW-La Crosse men’s track and field team has won the Division III National Championship … again.

For the 12th time – the most by any Division III school in history – the Eagles have finished champions. Saturday, UW-L edged out UW-Eau Claire by two points to win it all at Roger Harring Stadium.

Maybe this can be a thing for the Aquinas High School track and field team.

You win it all one year. We'll win it all the next.

If that's the case, it's the boys turn.

Two years ago, the Aquinas boys won a Division 2 state track and field championship.

Last year, it was the girls turn behind a senior dominated performance.

Now up, the boys again? Perhaps, depending on how they do at Thursday’s Division 2 sectional at Boscobel High School.

The stupid thing here would be to pick the Miami Heat to win the series and go on to win the title.

Wait, that would be the smart thing to do and that will most likely happen, but I want to pick the Indiana Pacers to win the Eastern Conference Finals. I really do.

I like tough teams that win with defense.

Problem is, Miami is kind of tough and wins with defense … except Chris Bosh. He’s a pansy.

The bid at a state championship begins Thursday for the Central High School boys track and field team.

Central heads into the Division 1 Sectional at Madison Memorial led by senior Sawyer Smith, a Wisconsin recruit who is a favorite to medal in the 400-meter dash, high jump and long jump.

Smith is the top seed in the high jump (6-foot-2) and took second at state last year (6-6). He is also the second seed in the 400 (49.7 seconds), where he placed third at state last year (49.06).

The Red Raiders took second at the Division 1 state meet at UW-La Crosse last year, just four points shy of champions, Brookefield East (39 points).

The NBA is an exciting sport made up of superstars that do things not thought humanly possible.

The most popular is, of course, the dunk, and when it comes to the Western Conference Finals, don’t expect many.

For most, the series between the Memphis Grizzlies and the San Antonio Spurs will be a snooze fest focused on fundamentals and defense.

This is a series I’m very excited about. Maybe because I can most relate to aging, grounded veterans who can’t really dunk anymore and rely a lot on their post game.

Twin Cities get a new stadium ... again

It’s settled, the Minnesota Vikings are getting a new stadium ... again.

An indoor stadium. To play football. Indoors.

A stadium that looks like the Jawas’ Sandcrawler from the original Star Wars.

I have all kinds of problems with this and stadiums in general.
