    UW-L FB: Walsh rumblin' stumblin'

    All the momentum had shifted.

A crowd-oohing stick by UW-La Crosse senior Brett Benson forced a fumble.

Teammate Andy Walsh, all 260 pounds of him, picked it up and pulled the plow 53 yards for a touchdown, seemingly tip-toeing the sideline every step of the way.

UW-L FB can't recover from slow start

Sometimes, it looks like the first game of the season.

For the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse football team, that was exactly the case - figuratively and literally.

The defense didn’t show up to start. The offense took the first quarter off and, before the Eagles knew it, they had a 21-point deficit.

That was too much to overcome Saturday. UW-L scored with 13 seconds remaining in the contest to make it a 35-24 loss to the University of Dubuque at Veterans Memorial Field.

There may not be a more exciting game to kick off the 2013-14 NFL season.

It’s the rematch of the AFC Divisional playoff between the Baltimore Ravens at the Denver Broncos.

    NFL: The NFC by division

Finally, baseball is over and the NFL is here!

That’s how I feel about it anyway. Then again, I’ve felt that way for most of the summer.

Here’s the NFC by division. I feel like the NFC is a lot more competitive top to bottom than the AFC … except for the Bears. The Bears still suck.

The Broncos are good. The Jets are bad. J.J. Watt's a beast. Montee Ball could be. And Ray Lewis isn't around anymore to dance ... on the field anyway. What's the over/under on him doing it in studio, two weeks?

Here are my predictions for the AFC divisions this season. The hardest part of picking was who would be the surprise team and who would take a dive this season, since it seems to always happen.

    Badgers playing down ... again.

The college football season sort of starts tonight and this weekend.

There are some interesting storylines heading in, but what is rarely interesting about college football is the first few weeks.

The 23rd-ranked Wisconsin Badgers – new coach, quarterback questions, replacing Montee Ball – open the season against … wait for it … UMass. Hooray! The Badgers are 45-point favorites.

The week after, they play Tennessee Tech.

    What’s the point?

    Minnesota goes all-in on Pek

The Minnesota Timberwolves finally signed their center. And sign them they did.

Restricted free agent Nikola Pekovic is locked up for five years and $60 million.

I hate it for so many reasons, and I’m a guy who loves old-school basketball where a team actually has a center – not some hybrid who doesn’t do any dirty work.

    Jennings talking ... trash?

Whether it’s playing or watching, my attitude when it comes to sports is “shut up and let your game talk.”

And that’s not to say my game has anything to say for itself, but that’s kind of the point.

Whether I’m any good or completely awful, I don’t need to say anything. I don’t need to talk “trash” or “smack.”

    I hate everything about it.

    Packers' Rodgers in trouble

Nobody cares about the offensive line.

Nobody, except the quarterback and running back.

Nobody, except the Green Bay Packers brass, who just made Aaron Rodges the highest paid player in the NFL.

And now, the Packers starting left tackle – the most important position on the line – is out of the season, tore his ACL during … wait for it … Family Night.

    Time to fix baseball

    Baseball has to be fixed.

Not the slow play. Not the ridiculous salaries. Not even the drug testing.

What needs to be fixed – along with those – are the consequences.
