Trump: NFL should suspend Marshawn Lynch, who's been sitting for anthem all season Featured

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump says the NFL should suspend Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch.

Lynch sat during most of the U.S. anthem and stood for the Mexican anthem before Sunday’s game against the Patriots at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.

Sitting for the anthem is something Lynch has done all season and claims he's done for his entire 11-year career.

Back in August, coach coach Jack Del Rio said of a conversation with Lynch about sitting during the anthem, “(Lynch) said, ‘This is something I’ve done for 11 years. It’s not a form of anything other than me being myself.’ I said, 'So you understand how I feel, I very strongly believe in standing for the national anthem, but I will respect you as a man. You do your thing.’

    "So it’s a non-issue for me.”

Trump tweeted early Monday claiming: “Great disrespect! Next time NFL should suspend him for remainder of season. Attendance and ratings way down.”

Former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick started the movement last season when he refused to stand during the anthem to protest racial inequality and police brutality.
