Brewers lead Cubs and Cardinals by 5.5 games

MILWAUKEE -- Not long after the Chicago Cubs traded for ace Jose Quintana, the Milwaukee Brewers got into the action, just not of the same caliber.

The Brewers, leading the Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals by 5.5 games in the NL Central, traded for left-handed reliever Tyler Webb from the New York Yankees in exchange for first baseman Garrett Cooper.

Webb had been assigned to Triple-A Colorado Springs. During two stints with the Yankees this season, he went 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA in 7 relief appearances. The 26-year-old made his Major League debut on June 24 against Texas.

The 26-year-old Cooper was selected by Milwaukee in the sixth round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft. He was batting .366 with 17 HR and 82 RBI in 75 games at Colorado Springs this season.

Quintana, acquired from the Chicago White Sox, is 4-8 with a 4.49 ERA in 18 starts this season. He was an all-star last year but finished 13-12 with a 3.20 ERA.

In exchange, the Cubs sent four prospects to the White Sox outfielder Eloy Jimenez, right-handed pitcher Dylan Cease, and infielders Matt Rose and Bryant Flete.
