Bamba chose 22-loss Texas over Duke, Kentuckywed, Michigan

AUSTIN, Texas —  Back in May, the storyline was how University of Texas basketball coach Shaka Smart landed Mohamed Bamba, one of the highest-ranked recruits in the county.

The 6-foot-11 Bamba picked the Longhorns, who lost 22 games last season, over Duke, Kentucky, Michigan and others.

But how have things changed. Wednesday, his brother, Ibrahim Johnson, posted this Facebook Live video (bottom of story) alleging Bamba took money and gifts from a financial adviser.

“As is usual practice by the NCAA, Mo’s amateur status was previously reviewed and final certified by the NCAA Eligibility Center,” Texas said in a statement to Yahoo! Sports. “The NCAA has not informed us of any pending issues or eligibility concerns at this time regarding Mo. If there are further questions, we certainly will cooperate with the NCAA to the fullest.”

Four other four-star recruits have signed letters of intent with Texas that include Matt Coleman (No. 29 on ESPN 300) and power forwards Jericho Sims (No. 64) and Royce Hamm (No. 79).

Bamba was a McDonald’s All-American who averaged 12.8 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.4 blocks in high school.
